Policy Plan

Stichting IGSD International works to advance human health, environmental protection, sustainable development, peace, and security around the world, excluding the United States of America. The foundation focuses on improving governance, implementation, and compliance with environmental and sustainability rules and laws. It works for the public benefit and operates only for charitable and educational purposes.

The foundation’s aims are to:

  • Promote education, research, and capacity-building on governance and sustainable development.
  • Strengthen the rule of law, transparency, and accountability in environmental governance.
  • Provide information, analysis, and training to governments, civil society, universities, and other actors.
  • Facilitate cooperation and dialogue across countries and levels of government to advance these goals.
  • Support stronger implementation and enforcement of environmental and climate agreements.

The foundation does not aim to make a profit, and its assets may not exceed what is reasonably required to conduct its work. All income is used for public-benefit activities.

Strategic Plan

The foundation carries out its mission through daily activities that strengthen governance, improve compliance, and support informed decision-making. These include:

  • Conducting and publishing research on environmental, climate, and governance issues at international, regional, and national levels.
  • Sharing research through reports, briefings, workshops, lectures, and webinars.
  • Running training and education programmes for governments, civil society, researchers, and students.
  • Organising expert meetings and roundtables to support cooperation and dialogue.
  • Supporting or joining projects that advance environmental protection, public health, and sustainable development. These projects follow a clear process for selection, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Providing technical assistance such as analysis, research support, and training for joint projects.
  • Participating in European and international networks, coalitions, and conferences, excluding those in or directed towards the United States of America.
  • Raising and managing funds exclusively in support of the foundation’s mission.

Through this work, the foundation aims to strengthen governance systems, improve compliance with environmental and climate commitments, and support more informed and transparent public debate.

Remuneration policy

The Foundation’s remuneration policy follows a market-based remuneration policy. This means that it is in line with that of comparable non-profit organisations. Staff salaries typically range between €50,000 and €200,000, depending on role, experience, and responsibility.

Board members with policy-making responsibilities will not be remunerated for such duties, but may be reimbursed for reasonable out-of-pocket expenses and non-excessive attendance fees. Executive board members may also be employed by the Foundation under a contract, in which case their remuneration is determined by the Board.

Fundraising and management of the assets

The Foundation will be financed mainly through grants and philanthropic contributions. It may also accept gifts, subsidies, and other income. The Foundation will not aim to make a profit; all funds will be used to advance its mission. Funds will be allocated to:

  • Research and publications;
  • Training, workshops, and convenings;
  • Joint projects and collaborations;
  • Modest administrative and operational costs, always proportionate to programme spending.

Accounting principles

The annual accounts are to be prepared in accordance with the Guidelines for Annual Reporting, specifically RJ 650 Fundraising Organisations (modified 2017).
